With Jungle Cruise, Disney hits the top of the American box office

For its first weekend of operation, the adventure film starring Emily Blunt and The Rock grossed $ 34.2 million.

Jungle Cruise, a nostalgic adventure film that took Disney to the top of the North American box office for its first weekend of operation, bringing in $ 34.2 million in quiet waters, according to provisional figures released Sunday by a specialized firm. Inspired by a Disney park attraction, the film follows the adventures of Doctor Lily Houghton, played by Emily Blunt, and her brother (Jack Whitehall) in the Amazon rainforest.

Both use the services of a charismatic boat owner (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) to travel up the Amazon in search of a tree with mysterious healing powers. The medieval fantasy film The Green Knight distributed by A24 came in second, with $ 6.78 million, for its first weekend. Based on a 14th century chivalry novel, its main character is Sire Gauvin (Dev Patel), nephew of King Arthur.

Right behind him was Old by M. Night Shyamalan, first last week, which this time raised $ 6.76 million.
