Instructions to Pak officials to stay away from politics

Pakistan’s army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa has asked the country’s commanders and other key officers, including those associated with the ISI, to stay away from politics and avoid talks with politicians. According to the report of The News International newspaper, these instructions have been given after reports that Pakistan’s military establishment is involved in attempts to manipulate the upcoming by-elections in Punjab.

What allegations did former PM Imran Khan make?

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan had also claimed that some of his candidates have complained to him about receiving telephone calls from unknown numbers. The PTI chief also said that pressure was being exerted on his party leaders and workers to hold the bypolls. Even before this, the ISI of Pakistan was given strict instructions to stay away from politics. The DG of ISI, Lt Gen, had instructed the officers of the intelligence agency that no interference in politics and political matters would be tolerated. Pakistani media reports said that the agency’s unauthorized political role has damaged the reputation of the ISI.
