Why did Imran Khan mention Nawaz Sharif and said that it was a big mistake of the Pakistan government? Learn

LahorePrime Minister Imran Khan on Friday admitted that allowing former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to go abroad for treatment is the “biggest mistake” of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government. Sharif, 72, is currently in London, where he is undergoing treatment since November 2019.

The health of the former prime minister and the main opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo has generated considerable interest in Pakistan. According to media reports, Sharif has heart-related problems apart from many health problems.

What did Imran Khan say,
Addressing a public meeting at Mandi Bahauddin in Pakistan’s Punjab province, Imran Khan, referring to Sharif’s health condition before leaving Pakistan, said that his government felt that he could not survive even a day. Imran admitted, “I believe today that we have [नवाज] The biggest mistake I made is by allowing me to go abroad.”

In 2019, the Lahore High Court lifted the travel ban on Sharif. Initially, Khan was not in favor of letting Nawaz go as Sharif had not completed 12 months of the 7-year prison sentence imposed on him on corruption charges.

Prime Minister Khan wanted him to sign a PKR 7.7 billion bond before allowing him to travel, but the High Court intervened and allowed him to leave the country.

Khan’s public meeting on Friday came to counter concerted efforts by opposition parties such as the PML-N and the Pakistan People’s Party, which are trying to move a no-confidence motion in parliament and oust Khan from power.

Imran’s popularity has been affected
Khan’s remarks on his political opponent come at a time when his popularity ratings have been affected in many areas of the country. Sharif’s popularity rate is 58 per cent in Punjab, 46 per cent in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 51 per cent in Sindh province, while the current prime minister’s popularity is only 44 per cent in Punjab and 33-33 per cent in Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh provinces.

The results were part of the findings of a Gallup Pakistan Opinion survey conducted from December 22 to January 31, 2022, to test the popularity of Sharif and Pakistan Peoples Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
