The VNVC vaccination system signed a contract to buy more than 25 million more doses of AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine, bringing the total number of doses ordered to Vietnam to more than 55 million.
Mr. Ngo Chi Dung – Chairman and General Director of Vietnam Vaccine Joint Stock Company (VNVC) and Mr. Nitin Kapoor – President and General Director of AstraZeneca Vietnam signed the contract on November 2 in the UK, under the witness of by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and General Director of AstraZeneca Group Pascal Soriot.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that vaccines are an important link in epidemic prevention and control and hoped that AstraZeneca would soon hand over a sufficient number of vaccines (in the vaccine purchase contract that VNVC signed with AstraZeneca since November 2020), and soon continue to give Vietnam more vaccines in the near future.
Mr. Pascal Soriot shared that Vietnam is a densely populated country, so it is very important to proactively prevent Covid-19 with a vaccine and commit to handing it over.
According to Ms. Vu Thu Ha, Supply Director of VNVC Immunization System, by early December 2021, the first batch of vaccines of this newly signed contract will be available in Vietnam. This contract to buy 25 million doses for 2022 is very important, importing to Vietnam the source of vaccines in large quantities in the context of complicated epidemics and the need to achieve the goal of vaccination coverage. In particular, a booster shot will be added for the frontline fighting against the epidemic or a third dose for those who do not have a good immune response.
This is the second contract VNVC buys Covid-19 vaccine from AstraZeneca. The first contract, signed in November 2020, includes 30 million doses and more than 20 million doses have been shipped to Vietnam, the rest will be delivered this November.
Thus, the total number of vaccines that VNVC has successfully ordered from AstraZeneca has reached more than 55 million doses and is the first unit of Vietnam to order successfully and import the vaccine to Vietnam early with the largest quantity.
“With this successful cooperation, tens of millions of Vietnamese people continue to have the opportunity to use a safe vaccine, protect health and life, and contribute to stabilizing life and economic recovery. At the same time, This bilateral cooperation with AstraZeneca once again affirms our capacity and reputation with global vaccine suppliers,” said Ms. Vu Thu Ha.
