Video: Earthquake in China caused panic, people ran towards the streets

Earthquake Video: Four people were killed and 14 were injured in a powerful earthquake of 6.1 magnitude that struck the city of Ya’an in southwestern Sichuan province of China. The news agency PTI has given this news quoting local officials. According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, or CENC, the earthquake shook Lushan County, Yan’an City at 5 pm local time.

A video shared on Twitter showed a woman and a child running inside a clothing store as the earthquake started. Another video shows a road. Vehicles moving on the road suddenly stop when the ground shakes, people get out of the vehicles and run to the middle of the road, nearby people also run towards the center of the road to avoid the debris falling on the side.

The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 17 km.
CENC said the epicenter of the quake was at a depth of 17 km. Three minutes after the quake, a 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck Baoxing County in the city of Yan’an. The People’s Daily reported that four people were killed and 14 others were injured. All the four people killed in the earthquake died due to rock fall.

Videos and photos on social media show that the earthquake and aftershocks caused landslides and damage to buildings, including homes built for people affected by a 7.9-magnitude earthquake in 2008, in the province on the Tibetan Plateau. School children ran out of their classrooms as soon as the earthquake was felt, while residents ran out into the streets, followed by a series of aftershocks.

Telecom damaged in some parts
Telecom was damaged in some parts of both the counties due to the quake, but some optical cables have been restored after emergency repairs, according to PTI.

Ya’an activated the second highest level of emergency response for the earthquake and is assessing the damage. More than 4,500 personnel from emergency rescue and other departments have been sent to the quake-hit areas.

In 2008, China’s deadliest 7.9-magnitude earthquake occurred in Sichuan Province, killing 90,000 people.
