Ukraine claims Russia is using more lethal weapons in war

Russia Ukraine War Update: Ukrainian and British officials said on Saturday that Russia’s military is using more lethal weapons to inflict massive damage in an effort to capture eastern Ukraine. At the same time, the UK Defense Ministry said that Russian soldiers are firing heavy anti-ship missiles of the 1960s in Ukraine. The KH-22 missile was primarily designed to destroy aircraft carriers using nuclear warheads. The ministry said that when such missiles are used in ground attacks with conventional weapons, the casualties increase and there is considerable damage.

Britain’s defense ministry said Russia may be using a 6.1-ton anti-ship missile because it lacks a more accurate modern missile. The ministry did not say where Russia used these weapons in Ukraine.

Vadim Skbitsky, deputy head of Ukraine’s military intelligence, told The Guardian newspaper that Ukraine is using between 5,000 and 6,000 cannon shots a day and is now dependent on weapons from Western countries.

Luhansk Governor Serhi Haidai has accused Russia of using incendiary weapons in the village of Varubivka in Ukraine’s eastern region. Haidai said such weapons have been used in wars, but have resulted in heavy civilian casualties. Haidai wrote on social media Telegram on Saturday morning, “Information is being collected about the casualties in the village of Varubivka in Popasanyanska district.”

Haidai also said that the Russian army was continuously attacking Svyarodonetsk and destroyed railway depots, brick kilns. Important industrial units, including the glass factory in Lisichansk, have also been bombed.

European Union (EU) President Ursula von der Leyen visited Kyiv on Saturday to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Layne said she would discuss “the joint work needed to rebuild”.

The European Commission, the executive body of the European Union (EU), will discuss Ukraine’s request for EU membership next week. This is Leyen’s second visit to Ukraine since the Russian attack.
