The problems occurring on two international undersea fiber optic cables APG and IA have been fixed, completely restoring capacity on the route. Currently, only the AAG cable route is experiencing service interruptions.

In the new information shared with ICTnews, a representative of an Internet service provider (ISP) in Vietnam said that this morning, February 27, maintenance activities to fix problems on the undersea cable route. Intra Asia (IA) has been completed.

With a total length of 6,800 km and put into operation in November 2009, the IA undersea cable connects Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, Hong Kong and Japan. This cable route is considered as an important fiber optic cable route to transit traffic to the Americas and Europe for customers in Vietnam and the region. The IA cable line has been maintained to fix the problem since February 18.

Currently, 2 out of 3 cable lines that had problems at the end of last year have been repaired by the management unit (Artwork: Internet)

Along with the IA cable, another undersea cable, the Asia Pacific Gateway (APG), was also repaired and fixed on February 27. Thus, after nearly 3 months of service interruption due to problems in 2 directions of connecting cables to Japan and Hong Kong (China), the APG submarine cable route has now restored to normal operation.

Officially put into operation in mid-December 2016, the APG cable route has a length of about 10,400 km, with connection points in China, Hong Kong (China), Taiwan (China), Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. APG cable has the participation of investment from Vietnamese carriers VNPT, Viettel, FPT Telecom, CMC Telecom and is considered as a cable route that contributes to bringing a stable transmission line with a larger capacity for Internet users in Vietnam. .

With both IA and APG international undersea cable routes having repaired errors and restored capacity on the route, the pressure on the international Internet service quality assurance for users of the network operators has decreased significantly. Because, at the moment, only Asia America Gateway (AAG) cable has not yet fixed the problem, interrupted service.

As an undersea fiber optic cable that directly connects Southeast Asia with the US, AAG has been officially put into operation since November 2009. Over the years, the AAG cable line has often encountered problems, or been under maintenance, making the communication and information exchange of overseas Vietnamese users such as web services, email, video, social networks… go away. international delays.

The last time, the AAG cable had a problem on the evening of October 22, 2021. The incident caused the loss of all traffic from Vietnam to international routes on the route. At that time, the cable management unit expects the cable fault to be fixed by mid-December 2021.

However, after that, ISPs in Vietnam have continuously received notices of delaying the repair time. By 3:00 pm on December 29, 2021, the error on the cable branch connecting to Singapore in the direction of AAG has been fixed. Meanwhile, the problem occurred on the S1I cable branch connecting to Hong Kong (China) with 3 fault points that have not been fixed yet. According to the latest schedule, the time to complete the repair of errors on the S1I branch of the AAG cable line is March 13, 2022.

In addition to the two international undersea cable routes, AAG and APG, which are still disrupting services due to problems last year, there is also an additional Inter-Asia (IA) cable line that is also faulty, requiring maintenance to overcome.
