At the same time in May, the male YouTuber still publishes videos regularly with one product per week. Therefore, the drop in the number of subscribers is an unusual sign.

The story of the whole industry
Through Social Blade’s data, many tech YouTube channels are in the same situation as Marques Brownlee when there were not many new and outstanding products introduced in May.
In the last 30 days, channel The Verge increased 10,000 subscribers, while the number of viewers was also not positive, only around 3 million, much lower than the same period. Views of Unbox Therapy, a channel specializing in unboxing with 18 million subscribers, has also been on a downward trend in the past 6 months. VidIQ data shows that in January this channel had 23 million views. This number in May was only 13 million.
Not only internationally, technological content on YouTube in Vietnam is also gradually picking up viewers. Exchange with ZingMr. Tran Xuan Vinh, founder of Vampire Studio, a technology-themed YouTube channel with more than 2 million subscribers, thinks that this is a common trend of the whole field.
“In my opinion, it is a common trend for technology channels to slow down and no longer develop. This started in Vietnam 3 years ago, because the Marques Brownlee channel speaks English, the viewership is large, so it is only now that the impact is clearly seen,” Vinh said.
According to the channel owner, the number of YouTube users has been reduced by competition from other platforms, such as TikTok. Currently, many technology YouTubers also switch to the short video platform mentioned above because it is easy to attract viewers.
“YouTube also launched a Short feature, like TikTok, but the effect is still not clear. Hopefully, in the future, technology will have breakthrough products to revive this segment,” added Mr. Vinh.
However, technology videos on TikTok also have many problems. Many clips with false content still receive a large number of views because they are distributed by the platform.
According to Pham Tuan Ngoc, owner of the TikTok Tech channel with more than 2 million followers, because the platform is new, young users do not have filters, so false information is spread more.
