The vaccination card to fit in the wallet, was given to the people by the US authorities to help keep track of vaccination shots, to remind when and where to need the second injection.
The US Department of Defense (DOD) released the first pictures of the Covid-19 record card and vaccination kit, on December 5.
“The vaccination card will serve as the ‘simplest’ way to track the shots,” said Dr. Kelly Moore, Deputy Director of the Immunization Action Coalition (IAC). The IAC is giving priority to vaccinating frontline staff.
“Everyone will be given a handwritten card that will fit in their wallet. The card will remind everyone what kind of vaccine to get, when to get the next shot,” Moore added. “Do the easy, simple thing first”.
Designated clinics are responsible for reporting the vaccines they inject to people with the immunization registry. In this way, an organization can easily check in the absence of clear where the patient gets the first dose.
Many localities are planning to ask patients to voluntarily provide mobile phone numbers to inform the time and place of injections via text message.
All shots will be reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), according to Claire Hannan, Executive Director of the Association of Immunization Managers.
The released DoD image also shows the kit consisting of a card, a needle and a syringe, alcohol wipes, and a mask. The Express Campaign has 100 million kits ready for use right from the start of Covid-19 vaccine distribution.
To inform each person’s immunization status, CDC also plans to give medical staff a printed form on the badge or sticker. The medical staff will give the patient badges or stickers after vaccination.
This is part of a kit delivery program to health care systems to “educate, strengthen trust and promote immunization” of the CDC.
The vaccination card statement was made on December 2. “The kits will be available soon,” said Kristen Nordlund, CDC spokesman.
Dr. Amanda Cohn, a senior official at the CDC, said it is important to distinguish between those who have been vaccinated and those who have not.
So far, two pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and Moderna are awaiting licensing Covid-19 vaccine in the US. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is scheduled to discuss the decision to emergency vaccine approval on December 10 and 17.
Once approved by the FDA, it is expected that Pfizer and Moderna will distribute their vaccines on December 15 and 22 respectively.
But most Americans do not have access to the vaccine until mid-2021 due to limited initial supply. The CDC also recommends giving priority to vaccination of health care workers and long-term care workers.
Moncef Slaoui, chief advisor to the Express Campaign, said by January 2021, 100 million Americans will be vaccinated. By the end of January, the US is capable of dispensing 40 million doses, enough for 20 million people.
