Ukraine Russia War: The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has passed a resolution strongly condemning Russia’s attack against Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky tweeted his gratitude to all the countries that voted in favor of the resolution.

President Volodymyr Zelensky tweeted, “I appreciate the approval by #UNGA with an unprecedented majority of the resolution and strongly urge Russia to immediately stop the treacherous attack. I am grateful to all and every state that voted in favor. You have chosen the right side of history. ,

The president wrote, “The disastrous results of the vote for the offensive clearly show that a global anti-Putin coalition has been formed and is functioning. The world is with us. Truth is on our side. The victory will be ours!”

What happened in the United Nations?
The United Nations General Assembly voted on Wednesday afternoon. The resolution against Russia was passed by a majority in the United Nations General Assembly. The resolution was passed after a special emergency meeting.

141 countries voted against Russia during this voting, while 5 countries supported Russia. 35 countries were absent in this voting. India also did not participate in the voting. From the economically prosperous countries of Europe to the small Pacific island country, many countries have condemned Russia’s attack on Ukraine. There were also some supporters of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the emergency session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Unlike Security Council resolutions, the General Assembly resolution is not legally binding, but reflects an international stance. As of Tuesday night, the proposal had 94 co-sponsors. The inclusion of many countries like Afghanistan and Myanmar in these is a surprise for the diplomats of the United Nations.
