In Pont-Sainte-Maxence, in the Oise, the 12,000 inhabitants of the city have already seen several banks close. And another will drop the curtain, the Societe Generale or Credit du Nord. After the merger, one of the two will have to close. A resident thinks of “elderly populations“, for whom it is more difficult to move around.
Still in theOise, in Nogent-sur-Oise, in less than ten years, almost all the banks have left one after the other. There are only two left, for 20,000 inhabitants, and the mayor, Jean-François Dardenne, could not do anything. In the rather commercial area of the station, it had become impossible to withdraw money. The town hall has therefore installed a vending machine, which costs between 1,200 and 1,400 euros per month. “But it is a service that is very useful to the population“, recognizes Jean-François Dardenne. Indeed, 2,400 withdrawals were made during the month of November. France has lost 3,000 bank branches in ten years.
