The remuneration of the directors of the 120 largest French companies increased by 2% in 2019, according to the annual report of the firm Proxinvest, specializing in advice to shareholders that Franceinfo was able to consult. Their median compensation now stands at 3 million euros.
“When we look at the sample of executives of the 120 leading French companies, 60 – so half of them – are paid less than 3 million euros. 36 are between 3 and 5 million euros, 20 are between 5 and 10 million euros and there are 4 that are above 10 million euros “, specifies Loïc Dessaint, CEO of Proxinvest. Note that salaries can go up to 24.7 million as is the case for the boss of Dassault System.
Contrary to this increase, the salaries of the very big bosses, those of the CAC40, are – them – down by 10% whereas they had reached records in 2018. A drop which surprises Loïc Dessaint because, in 2019, the context of the pandemic was not yet present in France. However, annual bonuses have fallen by 8% with no real explanation. In three cases, there was even a total absence of annual bonus (for Atos – Thierry Breton appointed European Commissioner refused any bonus – EssilorLuxxottica and Sanofi).
To see the effects of the pandemic on businesses, we will have to wait for their 2020 reports.
