Terrorists will not find shelter on Pakistan’s land, pressure will be made to make it – Lloyd Austin

Washington: Lloyd Austin, who has been named as the US Minister of Defense, has said that the goal of the Biden administration is to further strengthen America’s defense partnership with India. He said that the progress of Pakistan’s action against Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba is incomplete. Austin has said that terrorists will not find shelter on the land of Pakistan, pressure will also be made on Pakistan for this.

Retired General Lloyd Austin, who was named as defense minister on behalf of Joe Biden, appeared before the Senate Armed Committee on Tuesday to confirm his name. Meanwhile, he said, “If my name is confirmed as defense minister, my goal will be to strengthen our defense relations with India.”

Efforts will be made to strengthen defense relations with India
In response to a question, Austin said, “I will further uphold the status of India’s ‘major defense partner’. I will continue to strengthen cooperation for the mutual interests of the US and the Indian Army.” Austin said he would also try to strengthen and broaden defense cooperation between India and the US through the Quad Security Dialogue and other regional multilateral engagements.

Pakistan’s action against terrorists incomplete

Austin said that he feels that Pakistan has taken steps to fulfill US requests in support of the Afghanistan peace process. He said that Pakistan has also taken action against anti-Indian groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, but it is progress encapsulated.

Austin said that apart from security assistance suspension, many factors could affect Pakistan’s cooperation, including things like the Afghanistan talks. Significantly, President Donald Trump suspended all financial and security aid to Pakistan in 2018 in the absence of strong action against terror.

Pressure will be made to stop using Pakistan’s land for terror
Austin said he would pressure Pakistan to stop using its land for terrorists and violent extremist organizations. He said that there is also a need to work with Pakistan to defeat al-Qaeda and the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISIS-K) and increase regional stability.
