The salary of beginning teachers will increase by 100 € net per month from next May, announced Monday, November 16, the Ministry of National Education. This increase will be paid in the form of a bonus.

About half of the ministry’s budget, increased by 500 million for 2021, will be used for early-career teachers, “In order to promote the attractiveness of the profession”.
French teachers’ salaries are 7% lower at the start of their careers than the average for Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries. “The premium will benefit 31% of teachers” (including CPE and national education psychologists), “During the first fifteen years of careers for permanent staff and will be degressive according to seniority”, we specify at the ministry.
450 € for directors
The bonus therefore did not concern teachers from 15 years of service. To allow for career advancement, the promotion rate “À la hors classe” will be increased from 17 to 18% in 2021. This measure will allow each year to 1,700 more staff to go outside the classroom (a second teaching grade), according to the ministry.
The ministry has also confirmed the payment of an IT bonus of € 150 net per year for all teachers from next January.
Some 21 million euros will be devoted to “A lasting increase” directors’ salaries, “Either the same level as that of the exceptional bonus for the start of the school year in 2020”. This exceptional compensation of € 450, promised at the start of the school year by Jean-Michel Blanquer, was to be paid to them from November.
