The French actor, César for best actor in 2010, will camp the powerful member of the Executive Board, who supported the career of the young Bonaparte, played by Joaquin Phénix.
Napoleonic legend says that General Bonaparte met Joséphine de Beauharnais in the salons of Paul Barras, then the strong man of the Directory. The American cinema website Deadline has just revealed that French actor Tahar Rahim, César for best actor in 2010 (A prophet), will camp the powerful director, the man who supported the career of the young Bonaparte, in the Napoleon by Ridley Scott. This historic film, directed by the director of Gladiatorshould hit screens in early 2023.
Tahar Rahim, in the munificent garb of Barras, thus joins Joaquin Phoenix in the credits (Gladiator, The Master, Joker), who portrayed the young and ambitious Napoleon Bonaparte before he became consul after the coup d’etat of 18 Brumaire, then emperor in 1804, and of course Vanessa Kirby (Impossible mission, Fast and Furious), who will play Joséphine de Beauharnais, the one who will become the first wife of the Eagle.
Last year in 2021, in an interview with DeadlineRidley Scott gave the reasons which pushed him to carry out this historical film on the rise of the most famous man of the history of France: The fate of Napoleon is fascinating. This little Corsican noble has succeeded in dominating the world. But beyond the political figure, it is his tumultuous love affair with Joséphine de Beauharnais that is fascinating. I know that after Commodus in Gladiatorone of the most complex Roman emperors, Joaquin Phoenix will be perfect in Napoleon. He will blend in perfectly with the character of this young officer who will also become a legendary emperor.»
