INTERVIEW – Between melody and science fiction, the 47-year-old actor, Oscar winner for Moonlight, finds his first leading role and plays a condemned father who gets cloned so as not to abandon his family.
You have to peel his filmography to believe it. Winner of two Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor in three years (for Moonlight andGreen Book: on the roads of the South ), Mahershala Ali never landed a lead role before the curious and minimalist Swan song in which the African-American actor plays the two protagonists. On the one hand Cameron, a graphic designer who, condemned by illness, clones himself to allow his wife and his little boy to continue living without risking losing him forever. On the other hand his double, Jack, who awakens to life and secretly replaces Cameron in his home.
Developed for Apple TV +, the first film by Irish director Benjamin Cleary could sink into the melodrama.
