Tokyo Earthquake: A powerful earthquake was felt in the area of Japan’s capital Tokyo on Thursday night, with an initial magnitude of 6.1. But officials said there was no tsunami threat. The meteorological agency said the epicenter of the quake was 80 kilometers (48 mi) deep in Chiba prefecture, east of Tokyo. Buildings were shaken by the earthquake but there is no news of loss of life and property at this time.
22 killed in Pakistan earthquake
At least 22 people were killed and more than 300 were injured when a 5.9-magnitude earthquake collapsed in a mountainous region of Pakistan’s Balochistan province in the early hours of Thursday. According to the news of ‘Geo News’, disaster management officials say that the death toll may increase further.
According to the Center for Seismology, the epicenter of the earthquake was in Harnai at a depth of 15 km. The damage caused by the earthquake has not yet been assessed. Tremors were felt in Quetta, Sibi, Harnai, Pishin, Qila Saifullah, Chaman, Ziarat and Zhob in Balochistan. Due to this, maximum casualties have been reported in the north-eastern district of Harnai.
The Associated Press quoted local deputy commissioner Suhail Anwar Shaheen as saying that at least four people working in a coal mine were killed. Disaster management officials said that the death toll could rise. According to the US Geological Survey, the magnitude of the quake has been measured at 5.9 and its epicenter was at a shallow depth. In such a situation, there is a possibility of more damage than this. Balochistan Interior Minister Zia Ullah Langou confirmed that the death toll in the quake has risen to 22.
