Huge devastation in Madagascar
Heavy rain and strong winds lashed parts of the country before the cyclone hit Mananjari in Madagascar. Madagascar’s Meteorological Office said on Sunday that rain would cause flooding in some parts of the country. The cyclone weakened after wreaking havoc in the Indian Ocean Island Nation. The Madagascar Meteorological Department said that the cyclone’s average wind speed had nearly halved to 80 kmph. While the fastest speed had reached 235 kmph.
48 thousand people displaced
It is being told that the rising sea waves destroyed the sandy hill which was part of a cemetery. According to media reports, the city of Mananjari is completely ruined. About 95 percent of the city has been badly damaged. Madagascar was already battling Tropical Storm Ana, which killed several people last month after hitting the Indian Ocean island nation. The France Weather Service had previously predicted that Batsirai would pose a very serious threat to Madagascar after passing through Mauritius and affecting the French island of La Reunion with torrential rains. Hurricane Ana affected at least 131,000 people in Madagascar in late January, killing about 60.
