An AFP report has claimed that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has left the neighboring country of Maldives after widespread protests against him.

AFP says immigration officials have informed that Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has flown to the Maldives in the early hours of Wednesday in an army Antonov-32 aircraft. Immigration officials said the Antonov-32 plane carried Gotabaya Rajapaksa, his wife and a bodyguard.

Left the country due to fear of arrest
