Sri Lanka Arrested Indian Fishermen: The Sri Lankan Navy has arrested 43 Indian fishermen for illegal fishing. Along with this, the Sri Lankan Navy has seized six boats. This information was given in an official statement in this regard on Sunday.

The Sri Lankan Navy on Saturday arrested these fishermen in the southeast sea area of Delft Island in Jaffna. The Sri Lankan Navy said in a statement that in a special operation conducted by the Navy in the South-East Seas of Delft Island in Jaffna on the night of 18 December 2021, fish in the Sri Lankan sea area. Six Indian boats present for the capture were confiscated, in which 43 Indian fishermen were on board.

Arrest for fishing in Sri Lankan waters
The arrests were made by the Fast Attack Craft Flotilla (4 FAF) attached to the Northern Naval Command. He told that the Kovid-19 guidelines were followed during the campaign. The caught Indian fishermen were tested with rapid antigen, after which arrangements are being made to hand them over to the concerned authorities for legal action.
Significantly, fishermen from both countries are often arrested for unknowingly entering each other’s waters. The fishermen issue has become a major irritant in bilateral relations.
