Severe shortage of fuel in Sri Lanka, ‘Weekly Fuel Quota’ will be implemented, Energy Minister said – no other option

Sri Lanka Weekly Fuel Quota: Weekly Quota of Petrol and Diesel can be decided in Sri Lanka from next month. Sri Lanka, unable to procure sufficient fuel due to lack of foreign exchange, is considering fixing weekly quota of petrol and diesel. Under this, registered customers will be able to buy a specified amount of fuel from the pump. Energy Minister Kanchan Vijayasekhar announced this in a tweet on Sunday.

,No choice but to guarantee weekly quota,
Vijayasekhar said, “We have no option but to make consumers register themselves at petrol pumps and guarantee weekly quota. This arrangement will continue till the fuel supply is normal. I hope that this system will be implemented from the first week of July.

Long queues outside petrol pumps
Due to non-availability of sufficient quantity of petrol and diesel, people of Sri Lanka have to queue up outside petrol pumps to buy fuel.

Due to fuel shortage, there is also a 10-hour power cut in the country since the beginning of April. In such a situation, the government can implement the ‘rationing’ system of fuel to control the situation.
