People’s protest in PoK: Several protesters have been injured in the indiscriminate firing by security forces in Poonch area of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). According to sources, the incident took place on Thursday (July 21) in which at least 65 locals have been arrested so far and 30 of them have been booked under the Terror Act.
Large-scale protests are taking place in PoK over high inflation and denial of basic human rights by Pakistani authorities. Locals were protesting on the main highway in Pagli area of Poonch on Thursday when Pakistani security forces and local police started firing indiscriminately to disperse them.
Many of those protesting have been seriously injured and the death toll has not yet been disclosed by the authorities.
People decided to continue the agitation
One of the locals said, “It is an act of state terrorism as the police have fired direct shots at us. We strongly condemn this. Is it a crime to raise our voice for our fundamental rights? I request the local youth to gather in large numbers and give a befitting reply to the atrocities of the state. The residents of Pagli area have decided to continue the agitation against the atrocities in the state.
People in PoK have been denied basic rights and they are facing many challenges like high inflation, poor education and health facilities. Whenever they raise their voice for their fundamental rights, security agencies use brute force to suppress dissent.
Last week, dozens of angry residents in several parts of PoK blocked roads against Islamabad’s harsh policies that are allegedly harming the economic interests of locals. The 40 lakh residents of PoK have never been allowed to speak a word and address their political and socio-economic grievances.
