Russia-Ukraine Conflict: In the meeting of the United Nations Security Council convened on the Ukraine crisis, India has urged for a solution through diplomatic negotiations and peaceful efforts.

India’s Permanent Representative to the UN TS Tirumurti said, “India is interested in finding a solution that can help reduce tensions immediately. We are also in touch with relevant parties.”

He further said, “We urge all sides to continue to engage through all diplomatic channels and work towards the full implementation of the “Minsk Package”.

Tirumurti further said, “We welcome the ongoing efforts including the Minsk Agreement and the Normandy draft. We also welcome the unconditional observance of the July 2020 ceasefire and the reaffirmation of the Minsk Agreement. We will meet in Berlin in two weeks.” For their agreement also welcome.”

Significantly, there is news of deployment of about one lakh soldiers near the border of Russia with Ukraine. Russia has denied that it is planning to attack Ukraine.

On the other hand, India did not participate in the procedural voting in the UN Security Council ahead of the meeting to discuss the situation along the Ukraine border on Monday. The United Nations Security Council met on Monday to discuss the Ukraine issue. Before the meeting, Russia, a permanent and veto-holder member, called for a procedural vote to determine whether the open meeting should proceed.

Russia and China voted against the meeting, while India, Gabon and Kenya did not participate. All 10 other council members, including Norway, France, the US, the UK, France, Ireland, Brazil and Mexico, voted in favor of the meeting.

The council needed only nine votes to proceed with the meeting. The meeting on the situation on the border with Ukraine proceeded with 10 council members voting in favor of the meeting.
