Astonishing mix of genres. Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, renowned for her artistic talents, has been hired as a scenographer by the stream giant Netflix, report our colleagues from BFMTV. His mission: to create the sets and costumes for the next film by Bille August, Danish filmmaker twice awarded the Palme d’Or at Cannes for Shovel the Conqueror and Best Intentions, respectively in 1988 and 1992.

The feature film, still in the draft stage and theoretically scheduled for 2023, will be an adaptation of the novel by Danish author Karen Blixen – published under the name Isak Dinesen – Ehrengard, published in 1962. The story presents a man, self-proclaimed “expert in love”, hired by a royal family to help the crown prince, shy sickly, to conceive in his turn an heir. Things get tough when a child is born out of wedlock.

In a lengthy blurb posted on Instagram, the queen was enthusiastic about this collaboration: “I am very happy to participate in this project. I tried to interpret the fantastic world of Blixen in the creation of the sets and the costumes, and I can’t wait to see the tale ofEhrengard come to life in this film. ” She also said that she has always been “fascinated»By the author’s universe, which she finds particularly aesthetic and conducive “To the creation of images”.

“I will stay on the throne until I fall”

The director, with all respect, has already dubbed the work of Margrethe II, which “Has created fantastic sets for the occasion. They will be the most important element of the overall scenography of the feature film., he was satisfied in a press release. Fantastic (in the most literal sense of the word), this is our starting point for this film. We want to use humor and elegance to create a devilish, burlesque, fabulous and autonomous visual universe ”, he added.

Will this new profession be taking enough to push the 81-year-old sovereign to take over? “I will stay on the throne until I fall”, warned this tireless monarch on his 80th birthday, April 16, 2020. Widowed since the death of Prince Henrik, which occurred in 2018, Margrethe II will celebrate his 50 years of reign on January 14, 2022.

Especially since the lady with the white bun always dressed to the nines is far from the only crowned head to collaborate with Netflix. In September 2020, six months after having given up to their royal responsibilities, the sulphurous spouses Sussex, Meghan and Harry, signed a – juicy – contract of several years with the streaming platform. They will be forced to produce different types of content for the American giant, such as documentaries, films, series and children’s programs. A first project, Heart of Invictus, a documentary series dedicated to the Invictus Games, has already been announced.
