Dubai: Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa of Bahrain died on Wednesday. He was 84 years old. The Khalifa was one of the longest-serving Prime Ministers in the world, who led his nation’s government for many decades. During the Arab Revolution of 2011, there were also demands to remove him due to allegations of corruption. PM Modi tweeted and mourned the death of Prince.
Bahrain’s official news agency announced his death and said that Khalifa was undergoing treatment at the Mayo Clinic in the United States. A glimpse of the power and wealth of Prince Khalifa is visible in this small country. His portrait with the ruler of the country continued to adorn the government walls for several decades. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted and expressed condolences on the news of the death of Prince Khalifa. Also said that in this moment of grief our thoughts and prayers are with the King of Bahrain, the royal family and the people of Bahrain.

The Khalifa had his own private island where he met foreign visitors. The Prince represented an age-old tradition of leadership in the Gulf countries, in which those who supported the Sunni al-Khalifa family were rewarded. However, his modalities were challenged during the 2011 protests.
