Sri Lanka Cabinet Expansion: Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapakshe expanded the cabinet to include eight more ministers on Monday, but did not appoint any finance minister to look after the economic affairs of the troubled country. The new ministers belong to the ruling Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and its allies – the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP).
Rajapaksa has reshuffled his cabinet five times since the resignation of his elder brother and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. The minister will serve in the interim cabinet of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, formed to deal with the current economic crisis. The ‘Economy Next’ news portal tweeted that Douglas Devanand as Minister of Fisheries, Bandula Gunawardhana as Minister of Transport & Highways and Communications Media, Kehelia Rambuquela as Minister of Health and Water Supply, Ramesh Pathirana as Minister of Industries And Mahinda Amaraweera took oath as the Minister of Agriculture, Wildlife and Wildlife Conservation.

Apart from these, Vidur Vikramanayak as the Minister of Religion and Culture, Naseer Ahmed as the Minister of Environment and Roshan Ranasinghe as the Minister of Irrigation, Sports and Youth took oath. President Rajapaksa on Friday administered the oath to nine cabinet ministers as part of efforts to ensure stability until the formation of a full cabinet in Sri Lanka, which is facing the worst economic crisis since independence in 1948.
The new cabinet was appointed on 3 May
The ministers were sworn in more than a week after the President appointed new Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. The President has once again assigned this post to Wickremesinghe, who was the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka five times. President Rajapaksa administered the oath to nine new cabinet ministers on Friday. Earlier, President Rajapaksa had appointed four ministers. A new cabinet was appointed in Sri Lanka on May 3 under the leadership of Prime Minister Wickremesinghe. The cabinet will be limited to 25 members including the President and the Prime Minister.
Leaders of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party got a place in the cabinet
Former minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, representing the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), Independent MPs Sushil Premjayanta, Vijayadasa Rajapaksa and Tiran Ales were among the nine new ministers sworn in on Friday. Nimal Siripala da Silva was made the Minister of Navy and Aviation Services, while Sushil Premjayanta was made the Minister of Education. Similarly, Keheliya Rambukwella was sworn in as the Minister of Health and Vijayadasa Rajapaksa was given the charge of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms. The Ministry of Tourism and Land was given to Harin Fernando, the Ministry of Plantation Industries to Ramesh Pathirana, the Ministry of Labor and Foreign Employment to Manusha Nanayakara and the Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Food Security to Nalin Fernando. At the same time, Tiran Ales was made Minister of Public Security.
