‘People came forward to save the country from foreign forces’, Imran’s appeal in the midst of political crisis

Amidst the political crisis of Pakistan, Prime Minister Imran Khan has appealed to the public for support. He has described the people as the biggest defender of the country’s democracy and sovereignty. Imran Khan said, people are the biggest defenders of the sovereignty and democracy of the country. It is these people who must come out and defend the sovereignty and democracy of Pakistan, which is being attacked by foreign forces through our local allies – Mir Jafar and Mir Sadiq.

At the same time, hearing is going on in the Pakistani Supreme Court on Wednesday in the matter of dismissal of the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan and the dissolution of Parliament by the President. President Arif Alvi dissolved the National Assembly on Imran’s recommendation, minutes after National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri rejected a no-confidence motion against the prime minister on Sunday. Imran lost a majority in the 342-member lower house of parliament after two key allies withdrew from the ruling coalition.

Chief Justice Omar Ata Bandiyal said that the court will consider all the orders and actions of the Prime Minister and the President regarding the dissolution of the National Assembly. The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognizance of this development and a five-member bench heard the matter on Monday and Tuesday. President Alvi, Supreme Court Bar Association and all political parties have been made defendants in the case.

The lawyers of the government and the opposition presented their arguments regarding the decision of the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly. Justice Bandiyal had said during the hearing that even if the Speaker of the National Assembly refers to Article 5 of the Constitution, the no-confidence motion cannot be dismissed.

Experts say that if the decision comes in favor of Imran, then elections will have to be held in 90 days. At the same time, if the decision comes against the Vice-President, then the Parliament meeting will be called again and a no-confidence motion will be brought against Imran.
