Pakistan requests, Taliban-Afghan leaders to work on political solution

Afghanistan News: Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Monday urged Taliban and Afghan leaders to work for an inclusive political solution to ensure lasting peace and security. Qureshi discussed the current crisis in Afghanistan with Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan over the phone.

The Pakistani Foreign Minister urged the international community to play their part for the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan. According to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, Qureshi said, “The active and continuous engagement of the international community with the Afghan people is of great importance.”

He thanked Saudi Arabia, the current president of the organization, for convening a meeting of the 57-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on 22 August to discuss the current situation in Afghanistan.

Qureshi said, “A peaceful and stable Afghanistan is very important for Pakistan and the region.” Qureshi expressed hope that Afghan political parties would work for an inclusive political solution to ensure lasting peace and security in the country and the region.
