The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa incident created bitterness in the relations between the two countries.

Let us tell you that this visit of Qureshi to China is taking place at a time when 13 people including nine Chinese laborers were killed in a mysterious road accident in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan on July 14. This incident had created bitterness in the relations between the two countries, who were allies in every good and bad time. The incident took place in Upper Kohistan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province where a Chinese company is building a 4320 MW dam on the Indus river. The accident happened when a bus carrying Chinese and local workers to the dam construction site fell into a ravine.

There were differences between Pakistan and China regarding the reasons for this incident. It was initially said that there was an explosion before the bus fell. Later, Pakistan formally stated that the bus fell due to some technical glitch and the subsequent explosion was due to a gas leak. Chinese officials continued to call it an explosion and sent a 15-member expert team to investigate the matter. Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid said this week that Pakistan had completed the investigation and that China was satisfied. But he did not share the details of the cause of the bus accident.
