Outstanding features on iOS 15.4

Apple has just released the first beta of iOS 15.4 with many new features, most notably support for face recognition even when wearing a mask.

Face ID when wearing a mask

With iOS 15.4, users can use facial recognition (Face ID) to unlock iPhone even when wearing a mask, it will use the feature around the eye area to authenticate even if you wear glasses, except sunglasses.

This feature applies to iPhone 12 and later, but it can be used to authenticate Apple Pay transactions and third-party app logins. However, Apple still recommends that using Face ID with a full face is safer.

Cool emoticons

iOS 15.4 beta introduces 37 emojis with 75 different skin tones. Notable emojis include melting face, salute, peek, break, biting lip, bubble.

There are some new hand symbols, such as heart hand, right hand, left hand, palm up and down, hand with index finger and thumb crossed, more handshake icon skin tones.

Some other impressive symbols such as bird’s nest, X-ray film, crutches, playground slide, wheel, citizen identification card, low battery, coral, lotus flower.

Apple Card Widget

There’s an Apple Card widget added to your Home screen to show your current balance and daily spending.

iCloud Keychain Notes

Users can add notes to any password entry, bringing ‌iCloud‌ Keychain closer to other password storage apps like 1Password. On ‌iPhone‌ and ‌iPad‌, you can access the ‌iCloud‌ Keychain in the Passwords section of Settings.

120Hz animation support for third-party apps

After the launch of iPhone 13 Pro models, users noticed that third-party apps did not display all animations at the 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate. This should be fixed with the iOS 15.4 update

All animations in the app will display at 120Hz for a smoother and more streamlined app usage experience.

Cosmetic Scan

The code in iOS 15.4 suggests that Apple is developing a feature called “Cosmetic Scan”, which is used when swapping the ‌iPhone‌. This feature can be used to check an ‌iPhone‌ for damage or scratches, providing a more accurate estimate of exchange value.
