Operators “connect” mobile waves, helping people overcome natural disasters

Operators have launched free roaming services in 3 provinces of Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh. As a result, mobile users can catch other carriers when they lose contact due to the rain and flood.

Due to the impact of the storm No. 9, many BTS transceiver stations of the carriers could not operate properly, some antenna posts were broken. This leads to the fact that some areas in the central provinces lose mobile waves of some carriers.

To resolve this situation, the Telecommunications Department (Ministry of Information and Communications) has issued a written request to operators to deploy roaming of mobile telecommunications services (roaming) in the affected localities of the storm No. 9. Activity This movement is done to ensure smooth communication, and at the same time for rescue work in isolated areas.

Many carriers have encountered problems in some areas as a result of the impact of Typhoon 9.

Accordingly, the area proposed to open mobile telecommunications roaming service is in the three provinces of Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh. Mobile roaming will be rolled out to voice and SMS services.

In addition to the above 3 localities, the operators are also noted to plan roaming services in other provinces to be ready for implementation when required.

According to Nguyen Phong Nha – Deputy Director of the Telecommunications Department (Ministry of Information and Communications), after more than a day of discussion, operators have agreed to provide roaming services in the three provinces with the most damage due to the digital storm. 9 are Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh.

Viettel said that in areas with electricity cut due to storms, Viettel has arranged more than 600 free battery charging points to help people maintain communication.

Deploying a mobile roaming service is letting a subscriber of one carrier use another carrier’s signal to make voice calls and text messages. Roaming service users will be charged normally as if they were using the original carrier’s package.

Deploying the roaming service will help subscribers of a network operator in areas that have not yet resolved the problem can still make voice calls and text messages as usual.

Explaining the meaning of this service, Mr. Nha said that roaming will help mobile users make normal voice calls and text messages even in areas where their carrier has problems. can overcome.

The deployment of mobile roaming service will help governments at all levels direct and operate the work in time to overcome consequences of natural disasters. This will also help residents stay in touch in areas where only one carrier has coverage.

Enterprises in the information and communication industry are straining to help people overcome the consequences of natural disasters.

According to the Telecommunications Department, this is the first time that operators join hands to share mobile waves to assist affected localities. In the immediate future, operators have agreed to open roaming services in Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh from October 30, 2020 to November 30, 2020.

Currently, the Department of Information and Communications of localities is conducting information on roaming services to people in areas affected by floods. Operators also gave instructions in case people have difficulty using the service.
