Obi-Wan Kenobi: forty years later, a guest-star finds Darth Vader’s “costume”

In the original trilogy Star Wars, actor James Earl Jones lent his voice to the obscure character. Fans of the franchise were happy to find him.

For the past month, fans of the saga have been able to follow the new adventures of Jedi Obi Wan Kenobi. They had the pleasure of reuniting with Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen, the master and his obscure apprentice in the trilogy of films from the 2000s. Disney, however, had another surprise in store for the oldest fans of Star Wars : the participation of James Earl Jones. His face is really not the best known of the distant galaxy; he does not appear in the original George Lucas trilogy. But his voice – and what a voice – is one of the most famous in cinema: it is that of Darth Vader, the fallen Jedi who fell from the Dark Side. The one who throws at Luke Skywalker “I am your father” after a memorable duel at the end of The Empire Strikes Back in 1980.

Forty years later, the deep voice of James Earl Jones was heard in the third episode of the series, which aired on Wednesday. While the first two episodes set the scene for the series, with the forced retirement of the Jedi master, the arrival of the Inquisitors, the return of Princess Leia, the last episode is marked by the resounding comeback of Darth Vader.

Before the series, James Earl Jones had already found his mephitic persona in theEpisode IX – The Rise of Skywalker, in RogueOne and in the animated series Rebels.

The nonagenarian is the winner of two Primetime Emmy Awards, two Tony Awards, a Grammy Stinger, a Golden Globe Stinger and a Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Stinger and in 2012 he received an honorary Oscar for the whole of his career.
