As part of his research campaign, astronaut Kate Rubins has been successful in growing the radish crop on the International Space Station. Which was harvested on 30 November, while NASA has described this as “historic harvesting”. NASA says it was part of its plant research and plant Habitat-02 (PH-02), which seeks to understand how plants grow at low gravity.

एडवांस्ड प्लांट हैबिटैट में उगाई गई मूली
बता दें कि अंतर्राष्ट्रीय स्पेस स्टेशन में मूली की फसल को उगाने के लिए एडवांस्ड प्लांट हैबिटैट (APH) का इस्तेमाल किया गया. यह एक प्रकार का चैम्बर है जिसमें प्लांट तक एलईडी रोशनी, उर्वरक को नियंत्रित नियंत्रण के साथ, पौधे की जड़ों तक पानी, पोषक तत्व और ऑक्सीजन पहुंचाता है. जिससे प्लांट को ग्रोथ करने में काफी मदद मिलती है.

वहीं मूली को इसलिए चुना गया क्योंकि यह केवल 27 दिनों में पूरी तरह तैयार हो जाती है. नासा ने इसका एक टाइम-लैप्स वीडियो भी जारी किया जिसने सब्जियों के विकास को ट्रैक किया गया है. यह पहली बार है जब वैज्ञानिकों ने अंतरिक्ष में पौधों की खेती करने में कामयाबी हासिल की है. वेजी के रूप में जानी जाने वाली द वेजीटेबल प्रोडक्शन सिस्टम की मदद से, अंतरिक्ष स्टेशन ने कई प्रकार के पौधों को सफलतापूर्वक उगाया है, जिनमें तीन प्रकार के लेट्यूस, चीनी गोभी, मिजुना सरसों, लाल रूसी केल और ज़िननिया फूल शामिल हैं.
