More than 1.2 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine returned to Vietnam – VnExpress


Ho Chi Minh City1,228,500 doses of AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine according to the contract ordered by VNVC, arrived at Tan Son Nhat airport on the morning of July 23.

This is the 5th delivery of AstraZeneca vaccine, with the largest quantity ever, under the contract to order 30 million doses of Vietnam Vaccine Joint Stock Company (VNVC).

In the past three weeks, since July 9, more than 2.7 million doses of AstraZeneca have been returned to Vietnam under this purchase contract. The next shipment is larger than the previous one. Specifically, the fourth round on July 15 with 921,400 doses, the third phase 580,000 doses on July 9. Before that, the second batch was delivered on the evening of May 25 with 287,600 doses, and the first batch was delivered on February 24 with 117,600 doses.

Thus, in the past 6 months, AstraZeneca has delivered 3.1 million doses of vaccine in the VNVC contract, accounting for about 37% of the total amount of Covid-19 AstraZeneca vaccine supplied to Vietnam.

Currently, a total of nearly 8.6 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine are supplied to Vietnam through three sources including pre-order contracts with VNVC (as above), Covax mechanism and bilateral aid between governments. The AstraZeneca vaccine currently accounts for 77% of the Covid-19 vaccine supply across the country. The rest includes 500,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine donated by China, 2 million doses of Moderna donated by the US, and nearly 200,000 doses of Pfizer under the contract purchased by the Ministry of Health.

Nitin Kapoor, President and General Director of AstraZeneca Vietnam and emerging Asian markets, said that the amount of vaccine the company supplied in July showed an effort to speed up supply to urgently support the fight against the virus. Vietnam’s pandemic.

“We will continue to work with the Ministry of Health, WHO, UNICEF and VNVC to bring vaccines to Vietnam as quickly and safely as possible,” said Mr. Nitin Kapoor.

Ms. Vu Thi Thu Ha, supply director of the VNVC Immunization System, shared that the remaining tens of millions of doses of AstraZeneca vaccine in the 30 million dose contract will be brought to Vietnam as soon as possible. VNVC is also trying to find and negotiate with vaccine manufacturers to buy other sources of high-quality vaccines.

AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine, named AZD1222, is the first to be licensed for use in Vietnam, supporting the national vaccination program of the Government and the Ministry of Health. As of July 22, a total of more than 4.1 million doses of this vaccine have been administered nationwide to health workers, frontline forces against the epidemic and priority groups to expand.

Each batch of AstraZeneca vaccine undergoes more than 60 different quality control tests, throughout the entire process from production to vaccination. The manufacturer insists that the vaccine always ensures quality standards, no matter where it is manufactured.

AstraZeneca’s AZD1222 vaccine has been approved for conditional marketing or emergency use in more than 89 countries. More than 700 million doses of AZD1222 have been delivered to 170 countries.
