Minister claims – Imran Khan took a government car worth Rs 15 crore with him as soon as he went to power

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb has claimed that former Prime Minister Imran Khan has kept a luxurious car worth 150 million Pakistani rupees after he was removed from office through a no-confidence motion last month. Maryam said on Sunday, “Khan took a BMW X5 car with him which is one of the fleet of cars of the Prime Minister’s Office for foreign delegations.” And is bullet proof and was bought six years ago for about 30 million Pakistani rupees.

‘Imran wants to take the car with him’
Dawn newspaper quoted the minister as saying that Khan insisted that he wanted to keep the car with him, while earlier he himself had criticized previous governments for keeping expensive cars in the prime minister’s residence. The minister also claimed that Khan also kept a handgun gifted by a diplomat from another country, which should have been deposited in Toshkhana.

What does the law of Pakistan say about gifts?
According to the law of Pakistan, gifts received from a guest of another country should be kept in Toshkhana. Imran Khan was removed from office after he was defeated in the no-confidence motion last month. Since then his party Tehreek-e-Insaf has been facing a standoff over foreign gifts from the Shahbaz Sharif-led government.

A fortnight ago, the Islamabad High Court ordered the new government to make public the details of gifts received by Khan on his official visits, saying that the gifts given by governments of other countries to government officials belonged to the government of Pakistan, not to a particular individual. No. In response, Khan said that those gifts belong to him and it is his choice whether he keeps them with him or not. Khan said, “My gift, my wish.”
