LE FIGARO. – You were 10 years old in 1985. Yet you chose to tell the 1980s through the eyes of older protagonists, whether they were teenagers or adults…
Mikhaël HERS. – I feel constituted by the 1980s. I have a kind of magnetic attraction. When I come across a film from those years, it gives me a very strong feeling. Like the records and films of this period. I don’t feel that at all with the 1990s. I like this sentence from Saint-Exupéry: “We are from his childhood as we are from a country.” Revisiting this decade was the first impulse of the film. And I’ve always had the fantasy of living it being older, more independent and freer. The cinema allows me to satisfy this fantasy
