Lars Wilkes, who made cartoon of Prophet Mohammed, dies in car accident

Lars Vilks Death: Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks, who came into controversy by making a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed, died in a car accident on Sunday. Wilkes had made a cartoon of Prophet Mohammed in the year 2007, for which he received death threats. Since then, he was living under the protection of the police.

Swedish police told AFP news agency that in addition to Wilkes, two police officers also died in the accident. However, the police have also said that the cause of the accident is not yet known. “It is being investigated like any other road accident. Because two policemen were involved. A special section of the prosecutor’s office has been assigned the investigation,” a police spokesman told AFP.

Police said the accident happened near Markrid, southern Sweden, when Wilkes was traveling in the car. His car collided with a truck. Both the vehicles caught fire and the truck driver was admitted to the hospital.

Let us tell you that Wilkes started receiving death threats after making a cartoon of Prophet Mohammed. Al-Qaeda announced a reward of $100,000 for the person who killed Wilkes. In the year 2015, he was also attacked with a gun in which he narrowly escaped.
