Here, two health department personnel in Pakistan’s Punjab province were suspended on Thursday for issuing fake corona vaccine certificates in the name of ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at a government hospital here. A Punjab government official told PTI that Sharif, who has been undergoing treatment in London since November 2019, was given the first dose of the Chinese anti-Covid-19 vaccine Sinovac on Wednesday as per the records of the National Command Operation Center (NCOC).
According to NCOC records, Sharib (71) was vaccinated at the Government Kot Khwaja Saeed Hospital in Lahore. The episode has turned into a major political storm in Pakistan, with Sharif-led opposition Pakistan Muslim League (PML)-N targeting Prime Minister Imran Khan and his ministers over the vaccination programme.
PML (Nawaz) Punjab spokesperson Azam Bukhari said that while the government has blocked the computerized National Identity Card (CNIC), the three-time prime minister’s name is included in the NCOC figures. He said, “This raises serious questions on the vaccination program of the government. It is ironic that Sharif’s vaccination record has also come up in the NCOC data.”
