A big news is coming from Iran. A top nuclear scientist there, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh-Mahavadi, was killed on Friday. Iran’s official media IRIB and news agency Tansim reported this. According to reports, Mahavadi has been killed outside Tehran, the capital of Iran. Fakhrizadeh was the head of the new technology research center at the Revolutionary Guards. He is considered one of the masterminds of Iran’s controversial nuclear program.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Jawad Zarif says that Israel has refused to comment. The Iraqi foreign minister wrote on Twitter, “The terrorists killed a senior Iranian scientist. This killing shows the role of Israel that Israel is eager for war.” Javed Zarif says that Benjamin Netanyahu has taken the name of the slain scientist in a program earlier.
At present, no terrorist organization has claimed responsibility for this attack. Israel has also not responded to Iran’s charge. Despite Iran’s nuclear organization refusing to disclose this, government media and semi-government news agencies said that Mohsen Fakhrizadeh-Mahavadi has been killed.
Significantly, this news of the killing of Iran’s top scientist has come at a time when it was reported a few days ago that Iran has collected a large amount of nuclear materials beyond the prescribed limit. Subsequently, it was reported in media reports that US President Donald Trump had held a high-level meeting on Iran after losing the election and he was planning an attack. But his advisors refused to do so, as it could have serious consequences.
