India raised its voice in the UN, demanding a permanent seat on the basis of performance in the Security Council

India At UN: India’s envoy to the United Nations TS Tirumurti has said that India’s performance as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council is an indication that the world needs India as a permanent member at the premier forum. India’s permanent representative to the world body, Tirumurti, said in a video that India has taken its place in the Security Council for the eighth time as an elected member and the main achievement of our presence in the Security Council so far has been our presidency in August.

India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations posted a special video in which India has told the world about its many achievements in the Security Council. The video gives information about the achievement of India’s visit as a non-permanent member of the Security Council in 2021. In which the chair of the 15-nation council in August includes details related to issues such as terrorism, UN peacekeeping missions, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Africa, West Asia and climate action.

Narendra Modi became the first Indian Prime Minister to preside over the open debate of the Security Council

Tirumurti said that our performance again indicates that the world needs India as a permanent member of the premier forum. He has underlined the need for India to be given permanent membership with veto power in the United Nations Security Council. In the same year, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also became the first Indian Prime Minister to preside over the open debate of the United Nations Security Council. On August 9, he chaired a high-level session on the subject of maritime security and international cooperation.

This happened during India’s presidency of the Council in August when the situation in Afghanistan deteriorated rapidly and the Security Council needed to act on the issue without delay. Tirumurti said that resolution 2593 on Afghanistan was adopted under the chairmanship of India.

India had opposed bringing the issue of climate change to the Security Council.

Which says that the soil of Afghanistan should not be used for terrorism against other countries and that the authorities in Kabul will take action against all terrorists, including those designated by the 1267 Sanctions Committee. Significantly, India had also strongly opposed the efforts of some countries to bring the issue of climate change to the Security Council.

Tirumurti had told the council meeting earlier this month that India is second to none in climate action and climate justice, but the Security Council is not the place to discuss every issue. In fact, the attempt to do so appears to be motivated by a desire to evade responsibility at the appropriate forum, he had said.

India has always been a supporter of democracy

Tirumurti said in the video that India has always been a supporter of democracy, be it in Myanmar or Africa and on issues affecting the developing world, India has been a strong voice to defend their interests. He said that our commitment to protect the interests of developing countries is reflected in the work done by us.
