India extended a helping hand to Sri Lanka going through economic crisis, sent 40 thousand tonnes of diesel

Sri Lanka Economic Crisis: Sri Lanka is facing the biggest economic crisis in history. Now India has extended a helping hand to meet the needs of Sri Lanka. India has sent a consignment of 40 thousand tonnes of diesel to Sri Lanka. This is the fourth such assistance from India. Officials of the state-run fuel unit Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said that Indian diesel supply will provide some relief in the ongoing power cuts in the country.

Power cut for 13 hours in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka suffered a 13-hour power cut on Thursday, the second-longest after 72 hours during the 1996 electricity department workers’ strike.

The Indian High Commission tweeted here, “More fuel supplied by India to Sri Lanka. A consignment of forty thousand metric tons of diesel was handed over to the Energy Minister Gemini Lokuz in Colombo today under Indian cooperation through Line of Credit of $ 500 million.

After India announced in February a line of credit of $ 500 million for the purchase of petroleum products, recently announced a line of credit of one billion dollars to Sri Lanka to get out of the economic crisis. The High Commission wrote, “This is the fourth tranche under loan assistance. In the last fifty days, two lakh tonnes of fuel were supplied from Indian wells to the people of Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka is currently going through the worst economic crisis in history. Long queues for fuel, cooking gas, short supply of essential commodities and long power cuts have led to unrest in Sri Lanka.
