India has condemned the murder of Indian photojournalist Danish Siddiqui. Danish Siddiqui, a Pulitzer Prize-winning Indian photojournalist working for Reuters news agency, died on Friday while covering a fierce battle between Afghan soldiers and Taliban militants near a ‘border crossing’ with Pakistan in Afghanistan’s Kandahar province. .

Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Foreign Secretary at UNSC, said, “We condemn the killing of Indian photojournalist Danish Siddiqui while he was on a reporting assignment in Kandahar, Afghanistan yesterday. I express my deepest condolences to his bereaved family.”

Taliban handed over the body of Danish Siddiqui

At the same time, the body of Danish Siddiqui has been handed over by the Taliban to the International Red Cross Committee (ICRC). Sources said on Friday that India has been informed about the Taliban’s handing over of the body to the Red Cross Committee and Indian officials are working to bring back the journalist’s body. In this regard, a source said, “We have received information that the Taliban has handed over the body to the ICRC. We are working with the Afghan authorities and the ICRC to bring the body back.”

Sources said that the Indian Embassy in Kabul is in touch with Afghan officials to bring back Siddiqui’s body. Earlier, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that the government is in touch with the family of the photojournalist. Afghan media establishment Tolo News quoted sources as saying that Siddiqui was killed while covering a fight in Kandahar’s Spin Boldak district.
