Huge jump in new cases of corona in Russia, which claimed to be the first vaccine

Russian officials have attributed the surge in cases in early June to the Russian people’s lax attitude towards taking the necessary precautions, the rising prevalence of more infectious forms and low vaccination rates.

Although Russia was one of the first countries to announce a coronavirus vaccine, only about 14 percent of the population has received at least one dose of the vaccine. Russia’s Corona Virus Task Force has confirmed about 5.5 million cases of the pandemic in the country, while the death toll stands at 1,34,545.
