The French have apparently revived their taste for financial markets. Usually rather defiant, they were 411,000 ay take their first steps in 2020 according to the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF). As for those who were already shareholders, they took advantage of the confinement to increase their investments.

The trend had been emerging for two to three years, it has only accelerated. It is explained in particular by the very poor performance of the livret A but also by the IPO of la Française des jeux which attracted in November 2019 more than 300,000 new investors. A real popular success in a country where the image of the markets was severely damaged by the 2008 crash.

What consolidates Euronext, the company which manages the Paris Stock Exchange, when it prepares one of its most beautiful shots. With the takeover of the Milan Stock Exchange, the stock market operator will soon become the leading stock market in continental Europe. A nice revenge for a group which, in 2013, was prey when the New York Stock Exchange had just separated from it.

With the takeovers of the Dublin, Oslo and Milan stock exchanges soon, the company of which Delphine d’Amarzit, the first woman to lead Euronext Paris, will become CEO in March, aims to become a backbone of financial markets in Europe.
