Having a baby after 30 years of infertility

Hai PhongMr. Nguyen Huu Tinh, 65 years old, and Ms. Vu Thi Chung, 51 years old, welcomed their first child at Hai Phong Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital after 30 years of waiting.

Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Van Tam – Director of Hai Phong Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, on September 16, said that this is a 30-year infertility case, the first time I did in vitro fertilization (IVF), which was successful right away. first lung transfer. Doctors consider this to be a special case when both Mr. Tinh and his wife are of advanced age.

They got married 30 years ago. After many years of not having a natural pregnancy, the couple received treatment at a number of hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City in 2006, 2007, without doing IVF. Partly because they were busy with work, partly because they couldn’t continue working because of the economy, they decided to adopt children.

In June 2020, the couple went to Hai Phong Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital for IVF. Ms. Chung’s ovarian function declined significantly. Mr. Tinh is a former army officer, working for nearly three years in Phongsaly province, Laos, with a long history of severe malaria. Therefore, his sperm quality is low, his reproductive health is seriously affected.

To get a sufficient number of quality sperm for IVF, doctors have to perform epididymal surgery many times to filter and remove a sufficient amount of sperm. The wife received endocrine treatment, ovarian stimulation. Fortunately, right after the first successful embryo transfer, Ms. Chung became pregnant with a boy.

During her pregnancy, Ms. Chung suffered from gestational diabetes. Doctors must closely monitor the health of both mother and baby. On the morning of September 14, a baby boy weighing 3.4 kg was born healthy in the happiness of the whole family.

Doctors said this case is very special because women over 50 years old, the ability to have children naturally is very difficult. In very few cases, there are still eggs, so IVF is also difficult. Currently, the mother’s health is stable.

The oldest pregnant women in Vietnam, who gave birth at the age of 60, include one in Bac Giang who gave birth to a third child, and one in Hanoi who gave birth to her first child using someone else’s eggs.
