Ambitious stories, period costumes and five-star castings … French post-covid cinema should look like Hollywood. An adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ masterpiece The Three Musketeers is in production in a diptych estimated at 60 million euros.
Director Martin Bourboulon (Mom or dad, or the highly anticipated Eiffel with Romain Duris) has just announced, via RTL, its leading distribution. The rising star François Civil will play d’Artagnan and give the reply to Vincent Cassel in Athos, Romain Duris in Aramis and Pio Marmaï in Porthos. The happy band will have to get rid of the traps set by Milady de Winter, who will take on the features of Eva Green. Louis Garrel will play King Louis XIII. Lyna Khoudri (Papicha), Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread) and Oliver Jackson-Cohen ((S) exlist) complete this high-caliber European cast. The identity of the main antagonist, the infamous Cardinal Richelieu, has not yet been revealed.

The shooting of Three Musketeers is scheduled from August 2021 to April 2022 and should take place only in France. The first part is expected for 2023 on our screens.
