Instead of selling only laptops and mobile devices as before, the retail system FPT Shop will trade in both PCs and computer accessories.
Retail system FPT Shop has just put into operation the first 3 laptop and PC centers in Hanoi. These are stores with specialized spaces, focusing on selling products such as laptops, custom-assembled PCs and computer accessories (Mainboard, CPU, VGA, RAM, hard drive, case cover) , heat sink, monitor, headset, mouse, keyboard,…).
With this turning point, FPT Shop has officially entered a new business segment of computer hardware devices instead of just a retail chain of laptops and mobile phones.

GfK’s report for the first 5 months of 2021 shows that the gaming laptop market in Vietnam achieved a record growth of 217%, accounting for 20% of the revenue of the laptop segment in general. In which, FPT Shop is currently the store chain with the fastest growth rate, leading the laptop retail market with 31% market share.
The encroachment into PC assembly and accessories is a calculated move of this company to expand its business. This is considered a strategic “card” for FPT Shop to maintain its growth momentum by entering a completely new market segment.
Before that, in 2017, the parent company of this retail system, FPT Digital Retail Joint Stock Company (FPT Retail), also bought the Long Chau pharmacy chain to switch to the pharmaceutical industry.

Although it has just entered the market of computers and accessories, a representative of the retail chain FPT Shop said that this unit has certain advantages thanks to its large enough consumption scale. from there can negotiate with partners to get the best price.
Talking to VietNamNet, Mr. Nguyen The Kha – Director of Mobile Telecommunications FPT Shop said, according to this unit’s estimate, the size of Vietnam’s PC market is currently about 5,000-6,000 billion VND. This is a small market segment with a scale equivalent to 30-40% of the laptop market (about VND 15,000 billion).
Compared to the time before the Covid-19 pandemic, the demand for computers, laptops and computer accessories in Vietnam has increased dramatically. This has a significant impact by the directives on social distancing, along with the increasingly popular online work and study habits of users.
Sharing his opinion, Mr. Kha said that when working from home, users will need computers with higher configuration than conventional laptops. In the coming time, many Vietnamese people will upgrade their computers to better meet their online working needs. That’s why this retail system turned to PC assembly and selling computer accessories to take shortcuts.
