Former King of Nepal Gyanendra Shah and his wife and former Queen Komal Shah have been found infected with the Corona virus on their return from India after attending the Mahakumbh in Haridwar. This information was given on Tuesday in media reports. According to the Ministry of Health, seventy-three-year-old ex-king and 70-year-old former empress have recently returned from India. He took a holy bath during the Maha Kumbh at Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar. Mahakumbh is a religious gathering of Hindu saints and devotees.
According to ‘The Himalayan Times’ news, their samples were tested in polymerase chain reaction (PCR), which confirmed the Kovid-19 infection. According to the report, on returning home, hundreds of people had gathered at Kathmandu Airport to welcome the former King and former Queen. Authorities have started locating the people who came in contact with the couple, so that they can be investigated.
Gyanendra became the King of Nepal in 2001 after the massacre of his elder brother Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev and his family members in the royal palace. In the investigation, Birendra’s son Dipendra was convicted of the massacre. He was also among the dead. Shah had to step down in 2008 after the rebellion and the centuries-old monarchy was abolished. After that the Constituent Assembly transformed the country into a republic.
