Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said – Afghanistan’s proposal as UNSC President is important

Afghanistan Crisis: Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said that as UNSC President for August, we adopted 4 resolutions but the resolution on Afghanistan was very important. It called for an inclusively negotiated political settlement, calling for the Taliban to facilitate the evacuation of those who want to leave Afghanistan. In this resolution it was said that the soil of Afghanistan should not be used against any country.

The foreign secretary said, “I do not think that members of the international community are passive on the situation in Afghanistan. We (India) are not on the land, there is no property there. It’s not that we are not doing anything, we are in touch with every country that is interested in Afghanistan.”

Earlier, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla addressed the members of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) on Friday. He discussed the economic ties between the two countries with industry leaders. Shringla thanked the American business community for their support during the deadly second wave of COVID-19 in India. Along with the Foreign Secretary, India’s Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu was also present at the trade round table conference organized by the USISPF. SISPF is an India focused business advocate group.

On Thursday, Harsh Vardhan Shringla met top officials of the Joe Biden administration, including US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sharman, and discussed bilateral, regional and global issues, including the current situation in Afghanistan. This was the first high-level meeting between officials of the two countries since the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan on August 31. After the meeting, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi had tweeted, “Discussed on bilateral relations and the situation in Afghanistan.”

Harsh Vardhan Shringla also held meetings with several officials including his US counterpart Wendy Sharman. India’s Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu also attended the meetings with Shringla. Sandhu tweeted that “Had a great conversation this morning” with Blinken and Sharman.
