For its third installment entitled Dumbledore’s Secrets, the saga Fantastic Beasts finally makes a prolonged stop at Hogwarts and multiplies the nods to the original universe of JK Rowling. A first trailer lets glimpse the laconic brother of Albus Dumbledore as pub owner, Quidditch matches, a distribution of points between the houses of the wizarding school and the appearance of the legendary “Room on demand” introduced in The order of the Phoenix.
Another “secret” revealed by these first images: the beginnings of Mads Mikkelsen in the skin of the cruel mage Gellert Grindelwald. The Danish actor replaces Johnny Depp, ousted from the franchise due to accusations of domestic violence brought against him by his ex-wife Amber Head.
Scheduled in theaters for April 13, Secrets of Dumbledore take place in the 1930s and chronicle the involvement of the wizarding world in the political and human events leading up to World War II. To counter his former friend Gellert Grindelwald who, convinced of the superiority of wizards, wants to enslave and terrorize the world, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) calls for help his former student and lover of magical creatures the “magizoologist” Norbert Dragonneau (Eddie Redmayne). Dumbledore, who was then only an esteemed Hogwarts professor and not its headmaster, in his youth made a pact forbidding him to enter into a duel with the one who is now his nemesis.
A disparate band of heroes
Norbert Dragonneau will assemble a disparate team: his brother, a senior official at the Ministry of Magic Theseus (Callum Turner), the descendant of an august line of magicians, a professor of magic or even Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler), the faithful baker without power (a muggle in JK Rowling’s lingo). “Their most perilous mission will bring them face to face with animals, old and new, and the growing numbers of Grindelwald’s followers. Yet when the stakes are so high, will Dumbledore be able to stay in the shadows for a long time? “, asks the synopsis.
